Top Tips to Keep Your EV Charge Points Performing

Once your EV Charge Points are installed it is easy to apply the tick for job done, without another thought on if they will continue to function with minimal intervention.

Although most of the time this is the case, there are things we can do to ensure the charge points continue to function as we’d expect including:

  • Keeping an eye out for visual damage of the unit/s that may allow environmental conditions to effect performance such as water ingress

  • Keep your back-office subscriptions going and keep a note of the date of first year’s completion, otherwsie you might get a surprise once the first year’s subscription has expired

  • Ensure firmware is kept up-to-date because in some instances this could prevent your charger from functioning due to conflicts.

  • As most commercial chargers are untethered, it is important to ensure colleagues are using cables which are well maintained so they don’t affect your charge point.

  • Consider a maintenance contract which will ensure all of the above is monitored for you.

Solar Install - See Return on Investment ROI Around 4 Years

Planning to install solar is always a big decision, especially for a business with different considerations to make and accommodate such as scaffolding, deliveries, H&S etc. However, the reality is not a big upheaval if you use a reputable installer, and you could see ROI in around the four-year marker.

Using a Reputable Installer

Its important to use a reputable installer for a long list of reasons.  Any reputable installer would have specific processes to ensure your panels are installed with minimum fuss and interruption to your business. Planning and communication are key, so the transparency of the projects means there are no nasty surprises.

ROI of your Solar Panel Install

This depends on several factors including number of panels, orientation, usage etc.  However, it is not unusual to see a ROI around four years – see example below.

Example - 150 panels with installed DC power at 59.76 and net payment of £53,580 with annual energy production at 55.79mwh, seeing a ROI in 4.2 years*.  Potential lifetime bill savings of £331,945*.

*Based on Octopus Utility Rate of 39p (0.39 £/kWh) and Export Rate of 0.07p (0.07 £/kWh) and current monthly bill of £1,570.83.

Advantages of Independent Solar Installers

With some great SEG tariffs out there with energy suppliers, it is tempting to go to your provider to also install your solar.  However, you don’t need to ask your energy supplier to install solar to benefit from great import tariffs from providers such as Octopus Energy.

Utilising an independent solar installer such as UK Green Energy Installations ensures you get full control over your panel configuration for your property, and you don’t have to wait months to kick off your project.

Configurations for solar include utilising EV charging, diverting solar energy to heat your hot water, and diverting energy if you have a power cut.
