CASE STUDY: LPL Construction
Seamless Energy Transfer During Power Shortage
UKGEI installed a SigEnergy storage solution to enable LPL Construction Services to benefit from a seamless supply of power when mains supply is interrupted.
“A huge thank you to UKGEI for their support and expertise in delivering and commissioning our new SigEnergy battery-backup system at our Stansted offices. After a challenging year of repeated power interruptions, this installation has already proven its value. During a recent outage, the SigenStor system took over instantly, keeping our operations running without disruption and allowing the team to continue working as normal.
The quality of the installation, the guidance provided throughout, and the immediate impact on our business resilience have exceeded expectations. As a result, we’ve already placed an order for 2 additional batteries to further strengthen our backup capacity across the office.
We genuinely appreciate the service and professionalism from the UKGEI team and look forward to continuing the relationship as we build greater resilience into our operations”
LPL Construction Services, based near Stansted Airport, made a strategic decision to strengthen its business resilience following a number of power outages that disrupted operations throughout 2025. To address this, the company invested in a SigEnergy SigenStor battery-backup system supplied and installed by UKGEI.
While rooftop solar PV is not yet installed, LPL Construction Services intentionally selected a solar-ready, expandable system to ensure seamless integration once future re-roofing works are completed. This approach provides immediate protection against grid instability while laying the groundwork for future energy improvements, including on-site renewable generation and support for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
As a multi-disciplinary UK construction firm with over 30 years of experience across healthcare, aviation, education, retail, hospitality, commercial and civil engineering sectors, LPL Construction Services recognises the importance of operational continuity and long-term sustainability in supporting its clients and workforce.
the challenge
UKGEI was appointed by LPL Construction Services to deliver a resilient battery storage and backup system capable of maintaining business operations during grid failures.
Due to the site’s proximity to Stansted Airport, the local power network is prone to fluctuations and occasional prolonged outages. On several occasions, power network failures resulted in losses of power lasting several hours, significantly impacting office operations and continuity not just at Stansted but impacting access to critical IT systems by remote teams.
To mitigate this recurring risk, LPL Construction Services required a solution that could:
Provide instant failover during power cuts
Maintain critical business functions without disruption
Reduce reliance on an unstable grid
Allow for future renewable-energy and EV-charging expansion
the SOLUTION
UKGEI recommended deploying a high-capacity battery storage system with rapid response capability. The SigEnergy storage system was selected for its ability to deliver an automated, zero-changeover transition during power interruptions. This ensured that LPL Construction Services would experience a seamless and uninterrupted energy supply whenever the main grid failed. The zero-changeover ensuring IT systems were unaffected, allowing both office based and remote teams to continue operating without interruption.
In addition to its dynamic performance, the system’s modular design allows for straightforward expansion, enabling increased capacity as the client’s power requirements grow over time.
Future Proofing
Beyond its scalability—allowing additional hardware to be stacked as demand increases—the intelligent SigEnergy SigenStor system can also be configured to integrate with solar generation. This feature was of particular interest to LPL Construction Services, who plan to utilise their available roof space for solar energy production in the future.
IP Ready Battery Storage
The SigenStor battery system is IP-rated in accordance with the international IEC 60529 standard, which defines the level of protection an enclosure provides against the ingress of solid objects and water. This robust rating enables the system to be safely installed outdoors, ensuring that valuable internal storage space remains uncompromised.
Frequently Asked Questions FAQs
1. Can a Sigenergy battery be used without solar panels?
Yes. The Sigenergy SigenStor battery can operate as a standalone backup power system, providing essential energy during power cuts or grid interruptions. It can also be easily integrated with solar panels in the future without needing new hardware.
2. How does a commercial battery system help during power cuts?
A commercial battery stores energy in advance and automatically supplies power when an outage occurs. This keeps critical equipment running, prevents downtime, and ensures business continuity for companies that rely heavily on consistent operations.
3. Why did LPL Construction SERVICES choose a solar-ready battery now?
LPL Construction Services is planning future roofing works and wanted to wait before installing solar panels. Choosing a solar-ready battery now gives them immediate backup protection while preparing the site for a smooth transition to renewable energy later.
4. How is battery storage beneficial for construction companies?
Construction businesses often operate critical systems such as security, IT networks, and site facilities that must remain active during power fluctuations. A backup battery ensures resilience and reduces reliance on the grid—supporting both operational stability and long-term sustainability goals.
5. Can the Sigenergy SigenStor system reduce energy costs in the future?
Yes. Once solar panels are installed, the battery can store excess solar energy and use it during peak demand times. This lowers energy bills, reduces grid dependence, and contributes to carbon reduction targets.
