GivEnergy Battery Not Working Properly? Start Here Before Calling Support

Before You Start

If you're experiencing issues with your GivEnergy battery system, you're not alone.

As installers covering Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, we regularly hear from homeowners who are struggling to get answers when something isn't working as expected. In many cases, the system is still under manufacturer warranty, meaning technical faults and product-specific issues are best handled directly by GivEnergy.

We always recommend starting with GivEnergy's official troubleshooting resources:

However, we also understand how frustrating the process can sometimes feel. Homeowners can find themselves unsure whether an issue is caused by settings, connectivity, firmware, installation or a genuine hardware fault. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for people to feel they're being passed between different parties while trying to get answers.

That's why we've created this guide.

Our aim isn't to replace GivEnergy Support or provide technical diagnosis. Instead, we've put together some practical information and basic checks that may help you better understand what's happening and point you in the right direction.

As always, never attempt to open, modify or repair any part of your battery or inverter system yourself. If you're in any doubt, contact GivEnergy Support or a qualified professional.

Important: Please Read First

⚠️ Safety First

GivEnergy batteries and inverters contain high-voltage electrical components. You should never open, dismantle, modify, or attempt to repair any part of the system yourself.

The information in this guide is intended only to help homeowners perform basic, safe checks and understand common causes of unexpected system behaviour.

If you are unsure about anything, stop immediately and contact your installer or GivEnergy Support.

Before carrying out any checks, we strongly recommend reviewing GivEnergy's official troubleshooting guides:

GivEnergy also provides detailed support resources and diagnostics information for battery charging, discharging, connectivity and firmware-related issues.

Common Issues and Safe Checks You Can Perform

1. My Battery Isn't Charging

If your battery isn't charging from solar or during an off-peak charging window:

Check:

  • Is there enough solar generation available?

  • Is the battery already close to 100% charge?

  • Has a charge schedule been configured incorrectly?

  • Has your electricity tariff schedule changed?

  • Are there any warnings or alerts visible in the GivEnergy App or Portal?

GivEnergy's diagnostics guide recommends checking system settings and confirming there are no external controls affecting operation before assuming a hardware fault.

2. My Battery Isn't Discharging

Customers often expect the battery to power the home immediately, but system settings may prevent this.

Check:

  • Is the battery reserve percentage set too high?

  • Is the system currently operating in a specific mode?

  • Is there a discharge schedule configured?

  • Is the battery already at its minimum state of charge?

Many apparent "battery faults" are actually settings-related and can often be identified within the GivEnergy Portal or App.

3. The App or Portal Shows Incorrect Data

Occasionally users notice unusual figures for import, export, generation or battery activity.

Check:

  • Has the internet connection recently changed?

  • Has your router been replaced?

  • Is the system showing as online?

  • Are data delays affecting the display?

Monitoring issues do not always indicate a fault with the battery itself and can sometimes be related to connectivity or reporting delays.

4. My System Has Gone Offline

A loss of communication is one of the most common support requests.

Check:

  • Is your broadband connection working?

  • Have you recently changed internet provider?

  • Has the Wi-Fi password changed?

  • Is the inverter showing normal status lights?

GivEnergy provides dedicated connectivity and Wi-Fi troubleshooting resources for these situations.

5. Things Changed After a Firmware Update

Firmware updates can sometimes alter system behaviour or expose existing configuration issues.

Before Taking Further Action:

  • Allow sufficient time for the update process to complete.

  • Check whether the update completed successfully.

  • Review any notifications in the GivEnergy App or Portal.

GivEnergy advises that firmware updates should never be interrupted and that power should not be switched off during the update process.

When You Should Contact Support

You should contact your installer or GivEnergy Support if:

  • The battery will not charge or discharge after completing the recommended checks.

  • The inverter displays persistent fault codes.

  • The system repeatedly goes offline.

  • You notice unusual noises, smells, overheating or visible damage.

  • The system has stopped operating completely.

Having the following information ready can help speed up diagnosis:

✅ Serial number
✅ Photos of any error messages
✅ Screenshots from the GivEnergy App or Portal
✅ Approximate date and time the issue started
✅ Details of any recent changes to broadband, tariffs or system settings
